Ethereum Foundation Moves $654M in Routine Wallet Migration Amid Organizational Changes

The Ethereum Foundation has transferred 160,000 ETH, valued at approximately $654 million, to a new wallet as part of a scheduled wallet migration, the foundation’s co-Executive Director Hsiao-Wei Wang confirmed. The transfer was flagged by blockchain analytics firm Arkham Intelligence.

Arkham Intelligence tracked the destination wallet’s transaction history, noting previous significant transfers to Kraken Deposit, SharpLink Gaming, and a multisig address. Wang addressed the move on social media, clarifying that it was part of routine wallet migration operations and reassuring the community of the foundation’s intentions.

The transfer comes amid ongoing organizational changes at the Ethereum Foundation. Former lead developer of Geth, Péter Szilágyi, shared insights on the foundation’s operations in a letter previously sent to leadership. Szilágyi discussed aspects of the foundation’s structure, internal relationships within the Ethereum ecosystem, and disclosed that his six-year compensation at the foundation totaled approximately $625,000.

The foundation has been refining its operational structure and announced staffing changes aimed at optimizing the organization for current and future needs. It has also outlined plans for managing and allocating its remaining Ethereum reserves, measures designed to support long-term operational stability as the Ethereum ecosystem continues to evolve.

Wang’s prompt response to community questions demonstrates the foundation’s commitment to transparency. The scheduled wallet migration reflects standard security practices for managing large digital asset holdings across the cryptocurrency industry, underscoring the foundation’s focus on both operational efficiency and asset security.
