Coinbase Carries Out Major Wallet Migration as Part of Routine Security Measures

Crypto exchange Coinbase carried out a major fund migration on Saturday, transferring tokens to new internal wallets as part of a scheduled security procedure. The move is designed to reduce the long-term risk associated with holding assets in the same publicly known wallet addresses.

According to the company, the migration was not triggered by any cybersecurity incident or external threat. Coinbase stated:

> “Migrating wallets periodically is a well-accepted best practice that minimises long-term exposure of funds. This is a planned migration and unrelated to industry changes or price conditions. This is not in response to a data breach incident or external threat.”

As a result, large balances of Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH) and other cryptocurrencies will be moved on-chain from existing Coinbase wallets to alternative internal wallets already recognised by blockchain explorers and intelligence tools.

Coinbase also cautioned customers that scammers may try to take advantage of the migration by impersonating Coinbase staff and contacting users in an attempt to obtain login details or persuade them to move funds — something the exchange never asks customers to do.

The alert serves as a broader reminder for crypto users to stay vigilant against phishing attempts, scams, hacks and other forms of cybercrime in an increasingly complex threat environment.
