Revolut, Blockchain.com, and Relai Secure MiCA Licenses to Expand Crypto Services Across Europe

Revolut, Blockchain.com, and Swiss-based Bitcoin app Relai have all obtained Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) licenses, enabling them to offer regulated crypto services across the European Economic Area (EEA), the firms announced Thursday.

Revolut, which serves over 65 million customers, said its MiCA license will allow it to “provide and market its comprehensive crypto-asset services across all 30 markets in the EEA.” The London-based fintech, valued at over $45 billion earlier this year, launched its mobile app in March, giving users in the UK and EEA access to its crypto exchange, Revolut X.

Prior to MiCA, firms offering digital asset services in Europe could operate with a virtual asset service provider (VASP) registration from an EU or EEA country. Since MiCA took effect at the end of last year, newly designated crypto-asset service providers (CASPs) are expected to secure a MiCA license, with a grace period of up to 18 months in many cases.

Revolut received its license from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission, while Blockchain.com obtained approval from the Maltese Financial Services Authority.

> “With this regulatory clarity, we can scale our services across Europe, including secure digital asset custody, institutional-grade treasury tools, and localized products tailored to EU markets, thus ensuring a harmonized distribution of our services across all member states,” Blockchain.com said.

Swiss-based Relai received its MiCA license from the French Financial Markets Authority (AMF). Relai co-founder and CEO Julian Liniger commented:

> "We're incredibly proud to be one of the first Bitcoin companies to get the MiCA license and are eager to expand to France first and Europe in a second step.”

Other crypto firms that have obtained MiCA licenses include Kraken, Gemini, and Bitvavo. Stablecoin-focused Layer 1 blockchain Plasma also announced progress in Europe, having secured a VASP license in Italy, opened an office in Amsterdam, and indicated that a MiCA license application is underway.
