Coinbase is set to reveal a new suite of products focused on prediction markets and tokenised stocks at a showcase event scheduled for 17 December, according to reports from Bloomberg citing sources familiar with the plans. The initiative would mark Coinbase’s entry into two rapidly expanding segments of the digital finance landscape.
The new offerings are expected to enable users to trade event-based contracts and gain exposure to blockchain-based representations of publicly listed shares. Bloomberg reports that the tokenised equities will be issued directly by Coinbase, rather than being facilitated through external providers.
When asked to comment, a Coinbase spokesperson stopped short of confirming the details, stating:
> “Tune in to the livestream on Dec. 17 to find out what new products Coinbase is shipping.”
Coinbase has already signalled strong interest in prediction markets, describing them in a September blog post as a natural evolution of on-chain financial products. The company reinforced this direction last month through a custodial partnership with Kalshi, the largest prediction market operator in the United States, which selected Coinbase Custody to secure its USDC reserves.
> “Today we’re announcing that Kalshi…has chosen Coinbase Custody to safeguard their USDC – giving participants peace of mind when they trade on real-world outcomes,” Coinbase said at the time.
The announcement comes as competition in the prediction market and tokenised asset space continues to intensify. Gemini recently received regulatory approval to offer binary prediction contracts, while platforms such as Crypto.com and Robinhood have also moved into the sector. Robinhood has launched Kalshi-powered prediction markets, and both Robinhood and Kraken currently provide access to tokenised US stocks and ETFs outside the US market.
Interest in tokenised equities is accelerating, with monthly transfer volumes increasing by 32% in the past 30 days to reach $1.45 billion, according to data from rwa.xyz. Prediction markets are also experiencing rapid growth, driven by broader adoption of smart contracts and stablecoins. Coinbase Ventures Head Hoolie Tejwani has previously described the category as a “killer on-chain use case”.
As the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the United States, Coinbase serves more than 105 million users worldwide, including 10.8 million monthly active users. The platform processed approximately $1 trillion in trading volume last year, much of it from institutional clients — a scale that could provide significant liquidity as Coinbase expands further into event-driven markets.
At this stage, it remains unclear whether sports-based prediction contracts will form part of Coinbase’s upcoming product launch, an area already being explored by several competitors
